A sprinkler pipe burst Sunday evening at our high school, Queen Elizabeth Secondary School. Fire fighters arrived on the flooded scene and told our principal, Mr. M., who emailed staff and called restoration work crews. Workers suctioned water from the floors, carpets, stairs and ceilings plus set up large powerful fans to dry the mouldy rugs. The main areas impacted were most of the classrooms in the science wing and the CASE, ELL and BASES rooms directly below. The people affected are: teachers who have temporarily lost the use of their classrooms and students who must also get used to new spaces. Maybe this accident was due to the freezing weather or because our school is almost eight decades old. We were very surprised when we arrived at school Wednesday morning to see all of the ”danger do not cross” tape and “no exit” signs. We feel sad because our very big room is flooded and we can not use it. Also, we are frustrated that our blocks do not feel like they are in order. We can not take short cuts because we are forced to go the long way to class. It is not really a bother. This change is something we can live with. We are ready!
